About the Book-Centered Integrated Lesson Plans

These lessons were designed to be used by professionals who are training parents and caregivers to support young children’s literacy learning. Each set of lesson plans is centered on a children’s book, chosen particularly for family literacy programs. Four kinds of lessons are included in each set:
• Adult Education
• Early Childhood Education
• Parenting Education
• Interactive Literacy Activities.

The lesson plans are integrated so that parents and children can apply the knowledge learned during the Adult Education, Parenting Education and Early Childhood Education segments to their interactions together during the Interactive Literacy Activities. This use of integrated component lessons reflects best practices in family literacy
