A Tree for Me by Nancy Van Laan, illustrated by Sheila White Samton

A young child searches for a tree of his own to climb, and happens upon many woodland animals in the process. This story is told in a lilting rhyme and is also a counting book. It ends with the young explorer asleep in his tree house, under the watchful eyes of his parents. The pictures in this book are bright and engaging, offering us glimpses of a variety of creatures, including possums and chickadees. Young readers will surely delight in the words of this book, repetitious Dr. Seuss-like rhymes, as much as they will delight in the art, beautiful collages of nature.
