Mary Grew, born in Hartford, Connecticut in 1813, was an abolitionist and suffragist. Her progressive mindset was inspired by her father’s unconventional beliefs and further fostered by her education and her acquaintance with other activists, including Lucretia Mott and the Grimké sisters, upon moving to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She continued this advocacy despite significant backlash from the wider public. Read more here.
