Author William Moraley emigrated from London to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1729 as an indentured servant. A free spirit and financially irresponsible, Moraley spent his life hopping from job to job. However, he was well-read and published an autobiography about his time as an indentured servant in 1743. His work is an invaluable perspective on the life of the common man during his time. Read more here.
