Young adult fiction author Jewell Parker Rhodes was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and earned degrees in Drama Criticism, English, and Creative Writing from Carnegie Mellon University. Her work is informed by her personal struggles with loneliness and her absent mother, as well as African American cultural traditions and historical figures. Read more here.
