Bookie & Cookie
Bookie and Cookie are the best of friends and live on different pages of the book. Bookie lives on the left page, and Cookie on the right. Bookie loves quiet time and reading, while Cookie is full of energy and loves baking. The two friends usually enjoy their pages (and their friendship) in harmony; however, Bookie starts to notice that every time they visit, it is on Cookie’s page. After some tense communication, both friends reflect on their long-lasting friendship, and Cookie wonders if it might be time to step out of his comfort zone and turn the page on a new chapter.

Book Activities & Discussion Ideas
Host a “Bookie and Cookie” day! Invite children to bring a favorite book from home or choose one from the classroom. In a circle, have them share why they like their book. Then, move to a table with snacks (cookies optional!) and beverages and continue chatting about books—snacks and stories make a great combo!
Trying something new can be tough. Point out Cookie’s struggle to leave his page and ask children to share new things they’ve tried—or things they’re still nervous about. Adults can share their own childhood experiences to help validate children’s feelings and remind them of how much they’ve already learned and grown.
Try reading like Cookie and Bookie—at snack time, during play, or in a cozy corner. Listening to stories while doing something else (like coloring or playing quietly) can help children focus and imagine the story in their minds. Mixing reading with other activities can make storytime even more enjoyable.
