The Loopy Coop Hens
Midge, Pip, and Dot are cheerful hens who live on a farm with Rooster Sam, the handsomest white rooster anyone has ever seen. Speaking of Rooster Sam, did you know that he can fly? He can! At least, Midge, Pip, and Dot think he can fly—how else would he get up to the top of the barn to crow everyone awake each morning? The Loopy Coop Hens details Midge, Pip, and Dot’s love of Rooster Sam, no matter what he can or can’t do! Bright, colorful illustrations and text divided into mini-chapters make for a barnyard of enjoyment sure to please readers of all ages.

Book Activities & Discussion Ideas
Ask the children to help retell The Loopy Coop Hens by explaining what happens at the beginning of the story, the middle of the story, and at the end of the story. Give the children an 8 ½ by 11 inch piece of construction paper folded in two even increments to create three sections on the paper. Encourage the children to draw a picture in each of the three panels to show something from the beginning, the middle, and the end of the story about The Loopy Coop Hens. Children can take their pictures home to share the story with their families.
This book provides a great opportunity for encouraging families to “act out” stories, making them even more memorable and fun for children. Teach families to play “Rooster Tip-Toe.” Let the child play the part of the rooster. Create a pretend path to the barn roof by laying down items for the child/rooster to tip-toe on (pillow, towels, blankets, etc.). Parents wait near the “roof” with their backs turned away while the child quietly tip-toes over the path to crow and surprise the parent! Children and their parents can take turns being the rooster!
