About – Poems from Life with Juniper Village

In 2016, Ellysa Stern Cahoy, Assistant Director of the Pennsylvania Center for the Book at the time, and Katie Kensigner, Senior Director of Community Relations at Juniper Village Senior Living at Brookline, teamed up to introduce a poetry program to the Juniper Village community and invited Nicole Miyashiro, Pennsylvania Center for the Book Writer-in-Residence, to join the collaboration as poetry coordinator.

Founded in 2016-2017, Poems from Life with Juniper Village is an annual project developed in partnership between the Pennsylvania Center for the Book and Juniper Village Senior Living at Brookline to share and celebrate the lives of Juniper residents with original, individualized poems presented by local poets at a free community event.

Each year new, intergenerational friendships are built and the community and loved ones of Juniper residents come together for a moving, culminating evening where poets reveal their work in a reading, accompanied by poetry posters and chapbooks, and celebrate shared story and connection.
